That is a great question! It’s Dutch Berry because that’s the way our founders used it when they came here and built Dutch Berry.

An interesting historical fact is that Dutch Berry is a town that is very far away from any other towns and far enough out in the country that it is also it’s own county.

We put a similar question to a vote a few years ago, whether to change the name of the county to Dutch Berry or Dutchberry. The idea was that we would have the town name remain Dutch Berry while the name of the county would be Dutchberry.

However, by majority vote we voted against it simply because we didn’t want to have to change so many of our documents. It would have been such a hassle!

The Dutch Berry Sheriff also made a good point about it being too confusing and would cause too many errors because of their jurisdiction.

Another aspect was that if we started using Dutchberry Sheriff instead of Dutch Berry Sheriff we would have to change everything that is abbreviated DBSO, which stands for Dutch Berry Sheriff’s Office, to DSO, for Dutchberry Sheriff’s Office. And DSO just doesn’t have as nice of a ring to it as DBSO.

One of the biggest challenges we have is that outsiders misspell our name often.

For example, Patty Mayo, when he started filming his show in Dutch Berry, writes it DBSO and at the same time puts Dutchberry in some of his YouTube video titles. We wish he would just write Dutch Berry, but even if he doesn’t, at least he should make up his mind and be consistent with his choice.

Another example is the Dutchberry weed strain. It’s actually the Dutch Berry weed strain that was named after Dutch Berry. It’s a long story but we brought the marijuana seeds from Amsterdam to Dutch Berry for medicinal purposes after World War II and because of the rich and fertile soil at Dutch Berry Farm it became famous for its flavor.

So, you see, it’s Dutch Berry or Dutchberry still after all this time. The good news is that we were able to get the US Postal Service to forward the mail to either one since we are still the only Dutch Berry or Dutchberry in the entire country.

You are always welcome and we look forward to your visit either way!
